Fashion Discipline

On our first day of our fashion module we were introduced to our brief that had to be completed over the next two weeks.

We had to choose from either natural design or product/industrial design.  I decided to go with Industrial Design where i chose bikes.  I'm not really sure why i chose bikes.  I do find them interesting in the way that they are structured and how some can be so obscure etc.
Over the weekend I started to do a bit of research on them by collecting images, but on the monday morning we all went down to the library where we had access to book etc.
I got loads more images on the internet and also in books.

From there we went into drawing from the images we collected.  We were mainly told to focus on the different shapes in the image that we were drawing from.  For the next day we were to have roughly 20 sheets of images with the different shape extracted and other shapes extracted from those original shapes.

On our second day we had to present our shpes that we had extracted.
I had various different shapes like the wheel spikes, areas on the handle bars, parts of the engine on the motor cycle.
I ended up picking two very different shapes , one more detailed than the other, but both as effective!
We had to cut out our two shapes that we had picked in different sizes and work with them on the manaquin.

From this we had to do drawings from the paper structures and place them on the crokeys on different parts of the bady, and also change the scale of the shapes!
From this we had to extract other shapes from the original shapes on the manaquen.
This showed the development and how the original shape can evolve into another shape.

Colour trends are very important when gathering a collection together.we had to pick three colour story bords. It started with picking an image that u wanted to portray ur collection!
Each one had to have contrasting colours in them so you had a chioce to choose from when making your collection.
Images also had to be gathered which resembled and are simular to the image that u have picked!
The next stage was to gather colours that are in the image and display  them all on the page!

Over the next few days we had to continue on with drawing our shapes etc onto our crokeys.
We also had a day of doing line drawings of clothes and material on a manaquin.
I found this to be very helpful to me as it made me think about making sure that i difine the difference between the textures of the materials.
It also helped me to become more familiar in drawing garments and materials!

On our second week  we had to get three different materials light medium and heavy.
When we worked with tell paper the same approach was to be taken with the material!
i found this to be very interesting just being able to show the difference between the differnt weight of the three materials, and how trhey hung differently.

For me the medium weighted material was my favorite to work with. I also had felt which was also very nice to work as it has such good weight and structure to it.
We also had to draw from these images and experiment with them onto the bady!

Before we started our collection we had to pick  out shapes that appealed to us the most and produce and experiment with our collection from there!
once we had various types of  garments of different shapes and sizes etc we narrowed our choice down a 6 item collection!
I found it a little bit hard to narrow it down to six, so firstly i did it to 8 and then decided from there.
Once i had my 6 item collection picked i had to decide on my colour story to pick.
I decided on a very rich strong and warm colour story of reds, golds, and browns.
I then experimented with them, changing the colours around to see which looked better and what colours combined well together.
We were to have a one main dominant colour in each garment and then two less dominant!

Overall I found the two week experience very enjoyable and great experience for me as fashion is what i would like to major in.  We had something different to do everyday, and were kept busy throughout the two weeks which I really liked. I loved experimenting with our shapes using paper, i founf that really interesting and fun.  It was interesting to see what you could produce with just paper and certain shapes. It gave me such a good taste of what the course would be like if I were to get it, and I think id really enjoy it.
